The album “Astigmatic” (SACD Hybrid) by Komeda Quintet in a limited edition, in the series “Polskie Nagrania Catalogue Selections”. This is the first edition of this album in the SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) format. The choice of this format is a nod to audiophiles.
“Astigmatic”, the album recorded by Krzysztof Komeda’s Quintet is a work that has become the foundation of the Polish jazz scene. Recorded more than 50 years ago, it is invariably described in the opinions of both jazz connoisseurs and ordinary jazz fans as the most outstanding album ever recorded by Polish musicians. This opinion is confirmed by the plebiscites and surveys organised in the last few decades by radio programmes (e.g. Programme II and Programme III of the Polish Radio) and specialist magazines as “Jazz Forum”. Krzysztof Komeda’s album “Astigmatic” invariably received the most votes.
“Astigmatic” is the flagship work of Krzysztof Komeda, an artist whose work is referred to by Polish musicians representing various generations and stylistic orientations. It is a myth whose strength has not waned, despite the fact that several decades have passed since the composer’s early death.
