Warner Music Poland Release Information

A limited edition of the album “Na szkle malowana” (Painted on Glass), released on transparent vinyl with a blue splicer. “Na szkle malowana” is one of the more interesting musical adventures into which Katarzyna Gaertner and Ernest Bryll, accompanied by a veritable pleiad of soloists and instrumentalists, took Polish listeners in 1970. Janosik and electric guitars? By all means.

“Na szkle malowana” indeed bears the hallmarks of a unique gathering, a kind of supergroup that included musicians from Czerwono-Czarni (Klaudiusz Maga, Henryk Zomerski), Bemibek (Aleksander Bem) and the core of the first line-up of Dwa plus Jeden (Janusz Kruk and Andrzej Rybiński). They accompany a very wide range of soloists – both those associated with the beat scene (Halina Frąckowiak, Andrzej and Jacek Zieliński from Skaldowie, Jerzy Grunwald) and more broadly defined pop (Maryla Rodowicz, Edward Hulewicz).

The whole sounds colourful and interesting. We have here expressive songs from the borderland of blues and soul (“Kolibaj się, kolibaj” (Rock on, Rock on)) or Polish folk-rock variations (“Czekałem na ciebie” (I’ve Been Waiting for You)). There are also a few lively pop hits that have made their mark in the history of Polish music (“Nie zmogła go kula” (He Wasn't Crushed by a Bullet), “Hej baby, baby” (Hey Baby, Baby)).

Two songs sung by Czesław Niemen should be treated separately – instead of a bigbit supergroup, he recorded them accompanied by his own Niemen Enigmatic. They fit perfectly into the formula of the whole, but the expressive arrangements, exposing Jacek Mikuła’s Hammond organ, Tomasz Jaśkiewicz’s predatory guitar and Niemen’s own passionate voice, meant that both songs could also be successfully included in the programme of the soon-to-be-released red two-LP album “Niemen”.
