Kalemegdan Disk Release Information

The year 1969 saw the release of the album “10.000 lépés” (“10.000 Steps”) which was sold in lavishly designed gatefold sleeves and became a huge success. It has been one of Hungary’s most important rock albums ever. Just as the first one it is mixture of different styles, but clearly with a more matured sound: While the beat influence has decreased, progressive, psychedelic, rock and hard rock elements have been forming this new sound which is dominated by organ and rock guitar.

The title track was a gloomy sounding song of some six minutes with horns and an unleashed and heavily distorted solo guitar (just as The Gun had used one year earlier), anticipating musical developments of years still to come. Sometime later the second long track of the album, the ballad “Gyöngyhajú lány”, was covered by other artists – amongst them Frank Schöbel for “Schreib es mir in den Sand” and the Scorpions for “White Dove”. Another track of this album, the psychedelic instrumental “Kérgeskezű favágók” is stretched out for more than eight minutes and includes a lengthy drum solo. The bonus tracks are five songs from Omega’s singles from 1968 and 1969.
