Supraphon release information

A compilation of the guitarist, composer and arranger Luboš Andršt’s finest blues recordings.

The tracks, dating from between 1984 and 2007, he himself selected are not – especially as regards the bonuses – orthodox in terms of style, yet almost all of them are essentially blues. The CD, featuring Andršt as a soloist, as well as with the Blues Band, the Prátelé association or the occasional 3 Guitars line-up, is an electric and acoustic treat.

Andršt’s playing in the forms of rock, fusion and jazz has been captured on dozens of albums, yet this compilation provides a special view of the musical genre he has returned to repeatedly. In the booklet interview with Ondrej Bezr, he talks about the repertoire of this CD, the reasons why he has performed the blues, who his model and teacher was, whom he likes most, and goes on to explain why fingers are not the most important thing for a guitarist. Andršt also recalls how he met the splendid singers Peter Lipa, Ronny Gvay, Ramblin’ Rex and Reesie Davis, whom the album features too.

In addition to the blues standard I Got My Mojo Working, the compilation primarily comprises pieces composed or co-created by Andršt himself. His collaboration with the Czech Radio and the companies Best I. A. and Fontána afforded the chance to put together famous (especially the legendary Blues o neistom návrate) and, undeservedly, less famous recordings or albums not previously available in shops. Good Time Boogie, Rockin’ Blues, Blues Time, Shuffle One’s Feet and No More Excuses are supplemented by three bonus tracks. The fusion celebration Ráno and Corea’s Spain for three guitars are splendid instrumental pieces, while the closing One Man Blues is proof that strong experience can be provided by a single man and a single instrument.

One Man Blues: The best of Luboš Andršt’s blues repertoire!
