Supraphon Release Information

The last part of the “Souhvězdí” (Constellations) trilogy, “Souhvězdí romantiků” (Constellations of the Romantics). The new album of Olympic will feature unexpected guests: violinist Pavel Šporcl, jazz trumpeter Laco Déczi, cellist Jiří Bárta and mouth organ player Vladimír Papež.

“The trilogy of constellations was actually created at the press conference for the album “Souhvězdí šílenců” (Constellation of Madmen), where I spontaneously said it would be a trilogy... In the end I am glad it turned out that way...” says Petr Janda about the creation of the trilogy. The recording is the final part of the new Olympic trilogy. The title would suggest a preponderance of love ballads, but while there are undeniably stylistically accomplished slow songs, it makes for a very varied listen.

Exclusive songwriter and solo singer Petr Janda feels that this is his strongest line-up of songs for many years – and he's not wrong. The traditional summer music composition has been given lyrics by Aleš Brichta, Miroslav Černý, Ondřej Fencl, Vlasta Henych, Pavel Chrastina, Eduard Krečmar and Karel Šíp, while three songs are purely original.

Olympic, in its current line-up, plays and sings all the bandleader’s ideas perfectly, from ballads with an occasional bit of wormwood, see “Láska má bejt akorát” (Love Is Supposed to Be just Right), “Asi to byl správnej flám” (I Guess It Was a Proper Binge) or “Láska je někdy černá” (Love Is Sometimes Black), through the chorus song “Tak jdem hrát” (So Let’s Play), the retro boogie “Bourák” (Stormtrooper), the rock “almost” chanson “Lampion” (Lantern) or “Nám to neva” (We Don’t Care) to the beautiful final exhalation “Nemám žádnej plán” (I Have no Plan). There you will hear Pavel Šporcl’s violin, which – alongside Jiří Bárta’s cello, Vladimír Papež’s mouth organ and Laco Déczi’s trumpet – completed the line-up in the studio: Petr Janda, Milan Broum, Jiří Valenta and Martin Vajgl.

Slowly approaching its fifty-fifth anniversary, Olympic shows no fatigue of material. Janda, another two decades older, has found a credible position as a rocker in years, but with 100% energy looking forward.

The last part of the “co-stellar” trilogy: 14 new, not only romantic Olympic songs!
