Supraphon Release Information

Anniversary reissue of one of the most important albums of Czech popular music!

Vladimír Mišík – after excellent performances in The Matadors, The Blue Effect and Flamengo – found himself at the crossroads in the mid-seventies. Much of his past rock period had been swept away by communist’s “normalisation”, but he was also ready to confirm his own compositional inventiveness and definitive transition to Czech lyrics. The music he made was given his own and carefully chosen borrowed words (J. Kainar, P. Kopta, V. Merta, J. Suchý, H. Žalčík). In the studio there were great musicians, partly the germ of the next ETC... band, but also guests from elsewhere (C & K Vocal, O. Petřina or J. Stivín). The result were nine songs with influences of acoustic songwriting, but fully satisfying Mišík’s rhythm and blues essence. The album became an event in 1976, with the subsequent Bolshevik difficulties of reprinting the sold-out run, and later even with Mišík’s ban from public performance.

For this anniversary edition, it was possible to bring together the original creators of the cover, the photographer Jaroslav Prokop and the graphic artist Karel Haloun, together with their valuable memories and archives. The cover thus acquired a form that was unrealised at the time of publication (a slightly different cut and overall contrast of the photograph). The CD features a complete set of song lyrics, commissioned cover artwork, an original sleevenote by Jiří Černý, this year’s look back at the impact of the album by two dozen musicians and other artisans, and a set of little-known or documentary footage found for the occasion. The tapes have received a new remastering.

Vladimír Mišík will be seventy years old on 8 March. The return to his debut solo record is a reminder of a time more than forty years ago. It was a socially abominable time, but also a time that shone through Mišík’s music and singing with promise. We are honored to congratulate him in the nicest way.

A legendary album in a jubilee CD reissue!
