Supraphon Release Information

Second Olympic album in anniversary reissue

After “Želva” (Turtle), which recently received a CD and LP commemoration, there is a successful follow-up. Fifty years since its original release, the reissue of “Pták Rosomák” (Wolverine Bird), is a musically more mature project from Olympic. The last one with the classic line-up, i.e. still with bassist, singer and lyricist Pavel Chrastina.

By 1968, the rockers had a phase of temporary cultural relaxation and a short international experience. This is also why we can find here the inspiration of Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper, but also influences of sitar India or hippie San Francisco. Either way, however, it is a listening experience with the hallmark of Czech big beat, built on the unmistakable songs of the essential author-interpreter duo Janda-Chrastina, sympathetically complemented vocally by Jan “Sorry” Pacák and Ladislav Klein.

The vinyl version offers a reconstructed sound and cover, this time for the first time reissued with the original cut-out of “Pták Rosomák”, intended for rotation on the turntable. Probably the last re-release of “Pták Rosomák” on physical media, it thus provides a much-needed extended look back at the groundbreaking album: for without the later emigrating Chrastina, much was different.
