The best of Czech rock, jazz, blues and fusion!

The compilation summarizing the fate of Czech rock has moved deeper into the seventies with this fifth volume. The new 2CD summarizes the jazz-rock or rather rock-jazz movement of that decade, probably the strongest sign of the times. Attacks on dime-store, English, decibels and many other things, smacking of Western ideology, put most rock bands on the defensive. The possibility of fusing with jazzmen, usually tolerated by the authorities, proved to be stylistically acceptable and, at the time, actually globally attractive. Great musicians from both camps thus combined, mostly into safe instrumental themes, all sorts of influences, including those gradually innovated by synthesizers even in our country.

This selection offers recordings by ten top bands from the Supraphon and Panton catalogues, not quite complete, but a fairly reliable representation of the domestic scene of the time. The 31 tracks selected represent a total running time of 158 minutes, giving listeners the chance to experience brisk short pieces as well as compositions of more than ten minutes with long solos by exceptionally skilled instrumentalists. The Czech jazz-rock fusion of the 1970s shows elements of its still-vital appeal here, plus you can experience many of these musicians on contemporary concert stages – and compare.

The booklet includes a brief genre look back and period pictorial material.
