New album, new keyboard, new energy, new themes

Olympic, the 2020 model, brings a good dose of life to our rock-pop world. A coronavirus concert hiatus gave Petr Janda the chance to write a set of new songs, 11 of which made it onto this album. There was also a change in the position of keyboard player, where Pavel Březina appeared. The lyricists, mostly of the younger generation, added lettered content of an occasionally provocative, even violently incorrect type for the present time.

In part, Olympic returned to high-energy rock, to which a certain amount of rowdiness undeniably belongs. A typical example is the very opening hard rock ride “Kaťata” (Katya), which gave the album a rather unusual title and a very extraordinary appearance, symbolizing an ironic macho confession. But of course you will also find echoes of the typical Olympic sound, for example in the form of the ballad “Šrám, co se nezahojí” (A Wound that Won’t Heal), successfully following in the footsteps of hit songs with clear listener appeal and radio chances. The surprise at the end is the narrated blues, in which Janda offered a suggestive timbre to his voice, illustrating other rather fictional tales from the lives of some really tough dudes.

The booklet includes all the lyrics and a set of stylish photographs by Michal Matyáš. Instead of “just another Olympic album” there is a surprise: Janda’s rock perpetual motion is, gratifyingly, far from stopping.
