The most beautiful songs of the lady from the Spiritual

The set of twenty-four recordings from the years 1985-2019 represents a treasure trove of fine singing. Zdenka Tichotová is celebrating her semicircular birthday at the end of September, moreover, it has been forty-five years since she joined the Spiritual Quintet. These are good reasons to recall her great contribution to the collective joy distributed by the band. Dr. Tichota, not as a husband, but as an expert on various forms of spiritual creation, selected the songs and put them together into a pleasantly audible whole. Publicist Jiří Černý wrote an accompanying word in the booklet, going beyond a musical portrait towards the profile of a woman with an extraordinary destiny in many respects. In 1974, they exchanged tramp singing with the Nedvěd brothers in Toronto / Brontosaurs together for the more colorful Spiritual Quintet, where she has already stayed. She is a fundamentally valuable vocalist with an unpretentious simplicity of speech, so well suited to a mix of folklore, folk, gospel and Renaissance influences. Her solos were not frequent, but they were always worth it, see for example the captivating gospel What Month Was Jesus Born In, á capella traditional You know how to lie to me or the debut House Of The Rising Sun on this CD. It is also a tribute to the entire Spiritual Quintet, which in the spring of 2020 is about to definitely conclude its long and magnificent existence.
