50 cover versions and other hits, partly for the first time on CD

An important missing link in the compilation history of Czech Big Beat. To say goodbye to the sixties, the usual singles and covers have now been released, illustrating the atmosphere of the time. A substitute for the foreign originals unavailable in our country, but also a great chance for new bands. The colourful title logo hides an equally diverse content, offering a lighter form of combining rock with other influences after the previous “serious” jazz-rock or art-rock line-ups.

Some of those represented here never saw an album, some changed musical styles or became members of backing ensembles, while others went on to solo fame. This selection illustrates how popular west coast or generally multi-voiced singing was in our country at the time. It showcases musicians before or after differently successful musicians in the service of foreign acts such as the Beatles, Mamas and Papas, Bee Gees, Tremeloes, Procol Harum, Beach Boys, Hollies and others.

It proves the general enthusiasm and the necessary quality, transferring some of the world music trends to our gramophone records. Forty-four songs in Czech and variously good English “covered” are augmented by six examples of the skill of local authors. A booklet with an editorial note, interesting Single covers and photographs complements the often premiered recordings on CD in the form of a beat documentary under the title “Colours of covers”.
