Croatia Records Release Information

The first Yugoslavian pop music and jazz album, “Pjeva vam Ivo Robić” (Ivo Robić Sings for You), has been re-released on 10-inch vinyl.

The greatest Croatian singer of all time, Ivo Robić, conquered the Yugoslav music scene in the early fifties of the last century, and his first successes were connected with the songs “Serenada Opatiji” (Serenade to Opatija), “Ta tvoja ruka mala” (That Small Hand of Yours) and the ultimate hit “Samo jednom se ljubi” (To Kiss only once). The latter was released in 1956 on a Shellac single, and then on the first pop music album in Yugoslavia, “Pjeva vam Ivo Robić” (Ivo Robić Sings for You), on 10-inch vinyl along other incredible performances by soon-to-be global music stars.

The album was recorded with the Dance Ensemble of Radio Zagreb and Nikica Kalogjera, and each song was accompanied by the name of the dance (fox, slowfox, slow, beguine and tango beguine). In addition to the aforementioned, the album also includes the songs “Mexico”, “Odavde do vječnosti” (From here to Eternity), “Three Coins in the Fountain” (Tri novčića u fontani)”, “Skokiaan”, “Prva ljubav” (First Love), “Na voce ’na chitarra” and “Hallo, Bim-Bam Baby”.

After this album, Ivo Robić ended up on the throne of Yugoslav music, followed by international successes and collaboration and friendship with Bert Kämpfert, which brought him the hit “Stranac u noći” (Stranger in the Night), a song that in the English version by Frank Sinatra (“Strangers in the Night”) won the first place on Billboard and the UK Singles Charts, as well as two Grammys. 67 years after the original publication, the album “Pjeva vam Ivo Robić” is back on 10-inch black vinyl. All the songs were remastered by Goran Martinac at the Croatia Records Studio.
