Krzysztof Klenczon’s successful return to the Polish stage with a series of concerts in 1978 was the direct reason for the recording of the album “Powiedz stary gdzieś ty był” (Tell Me, Old Man, where Have You Been). After six years of absence, Krzysztof Klenczon returned to Poland between 2 and 30 July 1978, devoting most of his time to performances. How was it possible to make a recording in just a few days?

Ryszard Kruza, the musical director of the stage programme “Klenczon Show”, proposed what was at the time an “experimental” method. First, due to the lack of complete arrangements, the singer’s voice was recorded to the simplest possible musical backing, the so-called “pilot section” (bass & drums), and only then did Ryszard Kruza begin arranging the 10 songs. In the second stage of recording, the aforementioned backing tracks were “erased” and the already arranged parts of individual songs were added.

This is how the album was created, featuring two previously known songs, “Dziesięć w skali Beauforta” (Ten on the Beaufort Scale) and “Wróćmy nad jeziora” (Let’s Go back to the Lakes), as well as eight songs that were premiered at the time, all composed by Krzysztof Klenczon, including the nostalgic song “Natalie – Piękniejszy świat” (Natalie – A more Beautiful World), written for the artist’s second daughter, Jacqueline-Natalie.
