Croatia Records Release Information
Last summer Croatia Records launched the new music edition “25 Greatest Hits” exclusively on vinyl. It is a music project that aims to recall the most significant, popular and best-selling authors, performers and songs. The first five vinyls presented in this edition have been Mišo Kovač, Tereza Kesovija, Arsen Dedić, Novi Fosili and Zdravko Čolić, and each of them contains their twenty-five biggest hits.
The new record from the 25 Greatest Hits edition brings great songs by Gabi Novak. The double vinyl edition rounds out the rich music collection of one of the greatest divas of Yugoslavian music, and among the twenty-five evergreens are songs like “On me voli na svoj način” (He Loves Me in His Own Way), “Pamtim samo sretne dane” (I only Remember Happy Days), “Nada” (Hope), “Vino i gitare” (Wine and Guitars), “Za mene je sreća” (For Me It’s Happiness, “Gazi, dragi, srce moje” (Step on, Dear, My Heart), and “Hrabri ljudi” (Brave People). The authors of this edition of “25 Greatest Hits” are music lovers and connoisseurs: Želimir Babogredac, director of the record company Croatia Records, and Zlatko “Turki” Turkalj, music critic, journalist and radio editor. The graphic design of the new edition is due to Iva Vianello from Črčke Design. The cover of this double vinyl also contains an interview with Gabi Novak, who reveals various interesting facts about her musical beginnings, career trips abroad, the moments when she and Arsen Dedić identified musically and ideologically, and how she and her son Matija, as well as the entire cultural scene, will forever miss him.
“Yes, Arsen is missed by culture and everything you said. It’s hard. I miss him a lot as his eternal spouse, because you lose a person you love and respect. You live next to him and share your life with him, all the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. I miss his little tricks, the mornings when we watched “Dnevnik” (Diary) together with our first coffee and Arsen’s cigar. In the evenings, we used to watch movies or something interesting. We used to listen to music together. We somehow shared everything and I was always a great supporter of him in whatever he decided was good…”, Gabi says in an interview with Turki.
Before entering the music industry, Gabi showed her talent at the School of Applied Arts and Design, and she loved drawing the most. “I really loved colors and free exploration. I would quickly and skillfully transfer the moments I imagined or experienced to paper. I was involved in that and it was the only subject I enjoyed at this school until I enrolled in Applied Arts. And when I was accepted, I was never happier. First of all, being in the company of Ljerka Njerš, our wonderful sculptor, Miroslav Šutej, Labaš, Kuduz... I met all these wonderful people and wonderful teachers. We lived like a family, because we were at school all day...”, explains Gabi Novak.
