Warner Music Poland Release Information
The album “Sing-Sing” (SACD Hybrid) by Maryla Rodowicz in a limited edition, in the series “Polskie Nagrania Catalogue Selections”. This is the first edition of this album in the SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) format. The choice of this format is a nod to audiophiles.
Maryla Rodowicz’s album is an absolute gem of Polish music. The artist’s fourth album, released in 1976, was undeniably one of the highlights of Rodowicz’s career, an artist who has maintained her position at the top of the Polish music scene for years. The “Sing-Sing”album features ten exceptional songs that are the quintessence of Maryla Rodowicz’s work and have permanently entered the canon of Polish song. The album contains many light, hit compositions, they do not lack jazz elements, the songs are richly and artfully arranged, and the spirit of pastiche hovers over the whole. The lyrics of Agnieszka Osiecka, which, although light-hearted, are not devoid of deeper reflection, resound fantastically in this mood.
Maryla Rodowicz recalls: “The album “Sing-Sing” was a good time, a time of happiness for Agnieszka Osiecka in 1976. Agnieszka’s lyrics are light, like clouds. Agnieszka befriended my pianist, composer Jacek Mikuła, author of five songs on the album. Agnieszka used to refer to Jack’s compositions as “Mikułki”. There is a funny story about how she decided to take a taxi from Bielsko-Biała to Zabrze, to see Jacek, and already halfway there she regretted the money she had spent.
But on the spot, in Zabrze, in Jack’s flat, she wrote a series of charming, slightly pastiche texts in three days: “Sing-Sing”, “Damą być” (A Lady to Be), and “Nie ma jak pompa” (Nothing like a Pump). Agnieszka wouldn’t have been herself if she hadn’t made up the idea that she was locked in a room in Zabrze, lunches were served to her through the door and so she sat locked in until she wrote the lyrics. Jacek arranged all his songs, great strings, brass, a racy section. I would add that all the choruses, that's my department.”
