Vinyl finale of the anniversary hit project

To celebrate Karel Gott’s 80th birthday in 2019, two comprehensive compilations of his greatest achievements were released as a 4CD and 15CD box set. Now, on the unfortunately now not-quite-eighty-fifth birthday, and on a title with familiar photography from a great series of shots by Lenka Hatašová, there’s a 2LP offering a total of twenty-six songs.

Selecting the final less than three dozen from hundreds of recordings is a very difficult task, but the experienced Miloš Skalka had a previous, even more extensive set of recordings, sanctified by Gott himself. From the opening “Měsíční řeka” (Moon River) (1964) to the final new version of “Jdi za štěstím” (Go for Happiness) (2019 or 2020 edit), recorded by Karel Gott as his last ever song, this is a parade of hit tunes for a quite extraordinary voice. As with any similarly spare selection of content, moreover from the work of an artist with an impressive sixty-year career, there will be something for everyone, as the footage of the two ellipses is limited by minutes.

The new vinyl remastering has benefited the sound, the packaging, purposefully fitting into a coherent series of releases, is adorned with documentary photographs and detailed annotations to all the tracks add a welcome addition to the theme. As a result, it’s a fitting addition to the now three-volume anniversary project. And not only for owners of record players, but also for all those who want to have another unique memory of the unique singer Karel Gott at home.
