Indies Scope Release Information

The second album by Paper Moon Trio, “Jazz keď znie” (Jazz when It Sounds), was recorded in 2024 with the current line-up of Kristína Uhlíková (vocals, violin), Barbora Medeková (vocals, ukulele, banjolele) and Andrea Kružliaková (vocals, guitar). The year of the album’s release is also the year when the trio celebrated the tenth anniversary of its formation, and the concept of the new musical title, which brings songs composed for Slovakian and Czech vocal trios of the first half of the last century, is all the more symbolic.

Almost half of the album consists of songs by the vocal trio Včielky (Bees) (in variations such as Tri Dievčatká (Three Girls), Luna Trio, or Mikulovo Trio). “It’s incredible, but we had the opportunity to meet and sing with the last living member of the trio (at that time aged 99) and also the author of most of the beautiful lyrics, Mrs. Viera Palátová Bedrnová, who was extremely happy that her songs are still popular.

The arrangements of the songs were created by Andrea Kružliaková, and in each song there is, as she says, “a quoted or subtly hidden reference to what started it all – Hot Jazz! ” The album stands out for its diversity thanks to the cast of great musical guests Juraj Bartoš (cornet), Erik Jámbor (piano), Lenka Novosedlíková (vibraphone), Romana Uhlíková (double bass) and Milan Medek (guitar). The release of the album was supported by the Fond na podporu umenia (Fund for the Support of Art).
