Supraphon Release Information
Reissue of the export album, great music!
The starting point “Meditace” (Meditation) is undoubtedly one of the most important albums in the Czechoslovakian rock history, even though it was actually a posthumous release. Before everything was complicatedly rewritten and rearranged, as the cultural and political “normalization” had already begun, the singer Vladimír Mišík left Blue Effect. And because it was an excellent album with potential for export, the idea arose to leave a substantial part of the original in English and supplement the track list with versions featuring the newcomer Lešek Semelka on vocals and keyboards. The album was given a different cover, underwent the above-mentioned changes, and to this day has been serving as a slightly bizarre evidence of the confusion of the time, but definitely preserved with its quality.
The current packaging includes references to the original version, and the CD format features seven bonuses from 1969 to 2011, some of which complement the past, but mainly recall the album songs performed by various incarnations of Blue Effect. Guitarist Radim Hladík plays a key role in all of them, except in one case, where he is a guest of the gypsy band Kale. Several versions of “Slunečný hrob” (Sunny Grave) with Vladimír Mišík and Jan Křížek, as well as “Rainy Day” and “Blue Effect Street”, revitalized by young musicians, bring the blues rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s into the 21st century.
A brilliant repertoire, a constant challenge for new instrumentalists and singers, and lasting pleasure for the listeners.
